Henry L. Strothers Sr., 72, of Northumberland, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Geisinger Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 4, 1940, in Williamsport, the son of Recardo M. and Katherine V. (Murdock) Strothers.
Henry was a man of many talents and enjoyed many activities. A graduate of Williamsport High School, class of 1959, and a graduate of Mansfield University with a degree in business administration in 1982, Henry worked as a certified accountant for many years for companies such as Avco and Bethlehem Steel. Prior to his schooling, he served in U.S. Marine Corp. He also was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc., a former Ruler of the Elks Club IBPOW and sat on the Board of Directors at the Bethune Douglas Community Center.

To know Henry, is to know that he was passionate about sports. A certified umpire for the Little League, he worked with Acorn Little League in Northumberland (District 13), Little League World Series, and Maynard Little League, among others. In addition, Henry coached Williamsport Pop Warner Football and Williamsport School of Commerce Basketball. In 1972, he was honored with the Sports Award at the local chapter of National Conference of Christians and Jews Annual Brotherhood banquet. His award read, "A fellow who has done a lot of nice things." Some of those nice things include establishing the first Sickle-Cell testing site in Williamsport and starting the Salem AME Zion Midget Basketball Tournament, in which Henry was awarded again for his accomplishments by the Ray Keyes Brotherhood Sports Award in 1976.
He is survived by one son, Henry L. Strothers Jr. of Milton; two daughters, Dorothy I. (Westley) Reynolds of Inkster, Mich., and Tryphine "Kathy" Strothers of Williamsport; two brothers, Recardo M. Strothers Jr. and Samuel D. Strothers, both of Williamsport; 20 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; also his longtime companion, Jeannette Snyder.
Henry was predeceased by sons, Lamarr F. Strothers in 1974 and Anthony M. Reynolds in 2005, and two brothers, Frederick Strothers and Delos Strothers.
Relatives and friends are invited to Henry's Life Celebration service noon Saturday, March 16, 2013, at the Antioch Baptist Church, 514 High St., Williamsport, Pa., with Rev. Sam Washington officiating. A visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. Burial will be in Montoursville Cemetery.
