The Loyalsock Lancers reached the quarterfinals of the PIAA basketball playoffs for the first time since the 1990s with a 51-48 victory over Communications Tech of Philadelphia Wednesday night at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.
The win was No. 801 of Loyalsock coach Ron Insinger's boys coacing tenure, tying the all-time mark set by the late Don Graham, who coached Pittsburgh North Catholic from 1948-99.
Up next for Loyalsock is Trinity, a Catholic school from Camp Hill, Saturday at a time and place to be determined. Trinity advanced Wednesday by defeating Sayre, 74-47.
Wednesday was a busy night for area basketball, as Williamsport was eliminated with a 67-50 loss to Chester in the PIAA Class AAAA second round in Pottsville's Martz Hall.
Also, Bucknell earned a spot in the NCAA men's basketball tournament for the fourth time in 9 years by winning the Patriot League championship, 64-56 over Lafayette at Sojka Paviliion, The Bison will learn their opponent and destination for the 68-team field with Sunday's selection show on CBS.
