SAYRE - The 44th annual Gem & Mineral Show, sponsored by the Che-Hanna Rock & Mineral Club, will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Hall, 211 Herrick Ave.
Club members have been preparing for the event for many months. Several will exhibit their personal mineral, fossil or lapidary collections and will be on hand to demonstrate lapidary skills.
The junior club, the Pebble Pups, will have a display of its own and will man the working "mini-mine." A working mine car will transport treasures out of the mine.
Among the exhibits expected to be on display at this weekend’s 44th annual Che-Hanna Rock & Mineral Club’s Gem and Mineral Show is this example of an azurite sun from Australia.
Outstanding exhibits will be presented by the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and the Paleontological Research Institute.
Bob "UVBob" McGuire will present his fluorescent program several times during the show. During it, dull-looking rocks "glow" under a special light.
Dealers will sell minerals, fossils, jewelry, lapidary and gem stones.
Admission will be charged for adults and students, while those 8 and younger are free.
