WELLSBORO - Stacey L. Tanner, 28, of Beaver Dams, N.Y., was sentenced to four to eight years in state prison for homicide by motor vehicle while driving under the influence of intoxicants, for an August 2010 crash that resulted in the death of a Mansfield man.
Tanner was charged by state police with homicide by motor vehicle, aggravated assault and two counts of driving under the influence of intoxicants in Elkland District Court, according to court documents.
At 12:23 a.m. Aug. 26, 2010, Tanner hit a van operated by Mahmoud Gaballa, 65, of Mansfield, head-on with her pickup truck as she drove the wrong way on Route 15, just south of the New York state line.
Gaballa's passenger, Amal Rowezak, 58, of Mansfield, died of his injuries on Sept. 6, 2010.
Also injured were Gaballa's other passenger, Maha Gaballa, 22, also of Mansfield, and Douglas Taft, 62, of Lindley, N.Y., who was a passenger in Tanner's vehicle.
According to court documents, Tanner said she had been driving from Gee's Rodeo that night and had consumed four wine coolers.
For the aggravated assault charge, Tanner must serve 20 to 40 months in state prison, consecutive to the first count.
She also must pay $17,202 in restitution to the victims.
