Unfair punishment

April 3, 2013
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

Opponents of same sex marriage seem to be Christian Conservatives who wish to punish what they perceive as sin by denying the sinners the same benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Our laws shouldn't be based upon punishing sin; they should be based upon protecting the rights of individuals. Allowing same sex marriage doesn't infringe upon anyone's rights, while denying same sex marriage does infringe upon the rights of same sex couples. This isn't to say Christian Conservatives shouldn't be able to consider same sex unions sinful, just that they have no right to use the force of government to punish those they consider sinful.
