Jean M. Sneeringer, 83, of Hanover, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Monday, April 1, 2013, at the Brethren Home Community in New Oxford. She was the wife of James E. Sneeringer, who died March 28, 1992.
Born Jan. 4, 1930, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late H. Sid Warburton and Mildred (Snyder) Barrow.
Jean was a 1949 graduate of Williamsport High School, she was a homemaker and worked various places in the Hanover Area. Jean was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Hanover and the Kate Smith Society. She was a Girl Scout leader for many years, an avid golfer and bowler, enjoyed playing cards, and was a volunteer at St Vincent's Thrift Shop, Hanover General Hospital and the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center. Jean was a generous and caring woman who lived her faith and the Bible. She made weekly visits to friends and family and to local nursing homes to comfort the sick and lonely. Jean was a risk taker and not afraid of adventures. She loved her grandchildren dearly and was tickled by her great-grandchildren.

Surviving are six children, Victoria Mummert of Hanover, James Sneeringer and wife Cindy of Downingtown, Diane Brunetti and husband Walt of Palermo, N.J., Mary Dettinburn and partner John Pitts of Abbottstown, Jean Laughman and husband Tim of Bonneauville, and Peter Sneeringer of Hanover; 22 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three siblings, Joy Grafius and Mary Jo Cellini, both of Williamsport, and Michael Barrow of Los Angeles, Calif. She was preceded in death by her son, David Sneeringer; grandson, Joseph Laughman; son-in-law, Greg Mummert; and a sister, Jackie Padera.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent Church, Hanover, with Rev. John Schmalhofer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery, Hanover. Friends and relatives will be received for a visitation Friday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown, with prayers at 8 p.m.
