George Guye "Harvey" Steinbacher Jr., 78, of Cogan Station, died peacefully Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends.
Born June 9, 1934, in Williamsport, he was a son of George G. and Clara (Deutchle) Steinbacher. He married Beverly R. Bacon and they celebrated 55 years together on March 28.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Eastern Wood Products after more than 60 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the DuBoistown VFW Post 7863, the Red Run Rod and Gun Club, and was a charter member of the Ridge Run Rod and Gun Club. George was a loving, dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter, Lisa Raap (Curt) of Cogan Station; two sons, Kevin (Sharon) of Cogan Station and Chris Steinbacher (Marie) of Chambersburg; nine grandchildren, Randi Norris (Eric), Garth Raap, Alex O'Bryan, Jesse (Angie), Zachary, Samuel, Corey, Clarissa and Caleb Steinbacher; a brother, Paul Steinbacher; a sister, Cecilia "Toot" Halderman; and his dog, Webster, who was his constant companion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Frederick; four brothers, Lee, Lawrence, Leonard and Gerald; and two sisters, Rose and Rita.
A celebration of George's life will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 8, at the DuBoistown VFW Post 7863, 150 Shaffer St., South Williamsport.
