Susan Berfield has been a member of the YMCA since the summer of 2002. "As a Culinary Arts teacher, I was having problems standing all day. I was experiencing pain in my back and feet," Berfield said.
So she decided to consult Rachel Bryant, the Y's wellness director. "Rachel taught me the proper exercises and how to use weights to build up my core and legs. My last two years of work were much more enjoyable," she said.
Now that she's retired, the Y has remained a habit. "It's close to my house and has a variety of equipment. I also do the group exercise programs and the water exercise class," she said.
Like many people, Berfield wants to get stronger, have better balance, and lose some weight. She recently completed the eight-week "Commit to be Fit" program.
"I like the fact that people at the Y are non-judgmental and very family friendly. It's a great place to work out," she said.
