Donald L. "Donnie" Myers Jr., 81, of Hughesville, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013, at the Muncy Valley Hospital, Skilled Nursing Unit. He was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Hughesville, a son of the late Donald L and Guyla E. (Montague) Myers Sr. On Oct. 22, 1955, he married the late Doris H. "Dorie" Hill, who died Sept. 28, 1996.
He was a member (69 years) of Christ United Methodist Church, Hughesville, where he served as a trustee, member and past chairman of the Administrative board, choir member and had served as lay member of the Annual Conference. Donnie graduated from Hughesville High School, class of 1949, where he served as class vice president and continued to be active in the school's Alumni Association. Following high school, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Retiring in 1987, he served as a postman for the Hughesville Post Office for 38 1/2 years.
Donnie was a member of American Legion Post 35, the Park Education Recreation Commission, Hughesville; Picture Rocks Lions Club; West Branch Chorale, Muncy; volunteered at the Muncy Valley Hospital and was a charter member of the Hughesville Jaycees. Earlier in life, he was a Cub and Boy Scout Leader, served as a Little League Coach and played semi-pro baseball with the Hughesville Travelers in the former West Branch League.

He is survived by two sons, Steven L. (Sheila) Myers and David A. (Carol) Myers, both of Montoursville; daughter, Susan J. Quail, Auburn, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Lindsey, Owen, Grant, Micah, Alana, Caleb and Gabriel; two great-grandchildren; and a close friend, Faith Brooke, Muncy.
In addition to his wife of 41 years and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Grant Myers and Robert M. Myers; sister, Kathryn M. Wallis; and twin grandsons, Shane and Todd Myers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S. Main St., Hughesville, by Rev. Jane O'Borski. The interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hughesville, where graveside military honors will be accorded by combined military organizations. The family will receive friends Friday in the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Christ United Methodist Church, 148 S.
