Local experimental folk band Key of V will reunite for two shows in April after a nearly one-year hiatus that followed their second east coast tour with partner act Clawfoot Slumber (Alex Callenberger).
Originally comprised of sisters Val and Erin LaCerra, Key of V combines sounds from folk, cabaret, pop and even punk music under well-crafted lyrics, guitar and viola. The group has since expanded to include drums and synthesizer. The sisters draw inspiration from artists like Neutral Milk Hotel, Rasputina and Regina Specktor.
Key of V has released two full-length albums and two EPs. PunkNews. org described their last release, "Like My E.P.," as "fresh-sounding, slightly off the wall and enjoyable," and Grammy-Award Winning drummer Steve Mitchell describes them as "sound[ing] like themselves ... so fresh in a time of constant copies of musical artists."
From left, sisters Erin and Val LaCerra, aka Key of V, are seen. The group will reunite for two performances this spring.
Their song "Modern Day Dinosaurs," about the social effects of gas drilling in the area, was performed at the premier of the documentary "Gasland" in Williamsport.
During their bi-coastal hiatus, Val LaCerra has continued to create and perform music in Williamsport with Key of V drummer John Nicholson in their band, The Alterations. The sisters will retain Nicholson for the upcoming shows, and also Alex Callenberger, who played synth during tours. In addition to Clawfoot Slumber, Alex Callenberger plays lead guitar and sings for indie rock band The Antique Babies, who has also been on hiatus for about a year.
In fact, Key of V and The Antique Babies will team up for a double reunion during the first of Key of V's shows at 10 p.m. April 26 at the Bullfrog Brewery, 229 W. Fourth St.
If you miss that or prefer an earlier, all-ages show, be sure to catch Key of V "with" The Alterations the following night at Brews n' Bytes, 20 Lower Mulberry St. Danville, starting at 7 p.m. Both locations offer a full menu; reservations are recommended.
