David C. Crain Sr., 77, of Mill Lane, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.
Born March 1, 1936, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late David M. and Hilda J. (Pentz) Crain.
David was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher, former trustee and basketball coach. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge No. 397 and the Williamsport Consistory. He was a volunteer for the American Rescue Workers. He enjoyed spending his summers in Central Oak Heights, and winters in Zephyrhills, Fla. He also enjoyed woodworking, tinkering and geneology. Dave was a 1954 graduate of Montoursville High School and had served in the Naval Reserves. He retired in 1996 as a supervisor of the quality control lab at LONZA after 36 years.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jean (Derr) Crain; daughter, Donna J. Fitz (Charles), of Harrisburg; a son, David C. Crain Jr. (Nina), of Millville, N.J.; six grandchildren, Chad, Daniel and Joshua Fitz, Paige Ann, David III and Andrew Crain; two brothers, Benjamin S. Crain (Virginia), of Ralston, and Charles E. Crain (Kellie), of Muncy; and two sisters, Doniva J. Laubach, of Flemington, and Irene M. Wilson (Donald), of Williamsport.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Christian David Fitz.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 29, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1971 Lycoming Creek Road. Burial will be held in Montoursville Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions in Dave's name be made to American Rescue Workers, 643 Elmira St., Williamsport, PA 17701.
