Mary E. Steppe, 90, went to be with The Lord, Wednesday, April 30, 2013, at her home in Liberty, surrounded by her family.
A daughter of William and Mary Valentine Farnham, she was born in Michigan, Aug. 30, 1922.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Steppe and by Mary Lou Matthews's father, Thomas A. Gunther.
She was employed by Spencer, Gleason and Hebe, law firm in Wellsboro, as a bookkeeper.
Mary was a member of Friedens Lutheran Church and the Bible Study group of Liberty Lutheran Parish, also an active member of the Widows Luncheon, Liberty.
She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. The room would light up when Mary entered.
Surviving Mary are her children, Mary Lou Matthews, Liberty, Joan (Milt) Rogers, Nippenose Valley, Carolyn (Len) Lorson, Nippenose Valley, Marge (Robert) Means, State College, Vonnie (Steve) Wimmer, State College, Linda Steppe, Norristown and Doug Matthews, Liberty; her 93-year-old brother, Elias Farnham, Massachusetts. Surviving grandchildren are Jason and Anne Matthews, Jessica Matthews, Brian and Lisa Rogers, Rene and Wayne Schneider, Travis and Acacia Rogers, Brett Rogers, Greg and Melissa Lorson, Kevin and Nelda Lorson, Rodney and Jody Lorson, Jamie and Rachelle Lorson, Chad and Vanessa Lorson, Carrie and Nathan Miller, Molly Means, Ryan Wimmer, Casey Wimmer, Tara Wimmer; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Mary was preceded in death by a son, William Austin Gunther and brothers, Lloyd and Cyril Farnham.
Friends may call Friday, May 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg, and Saturday, May 4, at Friedens Lutheran Church, Liberty, from 10 until 11 a.m. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Richard Mowery officiating. Burial will follow in Friedens Lutheran Cemetery.
