I worked in nursing homes and personal care homes. $100,000 a year to stay in a nursing home, with some of the care and abuse they get it's not worth $25,000 a year. They charge to take you for doctor visits, any kind of appointments to ride in their special vans.
I know of a couple who was in an assisted living home.
They cleaned them out of their savings which was way over $100,000. The wife died there and the husband remained there until he no longer had any money left in his account except his Social Security.
They threw him out and was put in a good personal care home in Newberry where he got excellent care.
They took him just for his Social Security check. He was a great guy, a teacher, who worked hard all his life. I actually took care of him.
As far as nursing homes, I witnessed some things, reported them and nothing was done about it.
I wouldn't put my cat in some of these homes, let alone someone who really needs help and love. You have to have compassion to work in these homes, not just there for a paycheck.
I retired but I still go see some of the residents in some of the personal care homes. I could write a book on why you should really look around the area where you live in putting someone you love in a nursing home.
