Prison sense

May 5, 2013
Williamsport Sun-Gazette

The cost to house a prisoner in Lycoming and Clinton County is $70 a day, roughly $2,100 a month, as costs in every category of living expenses increase year after year. Why feed, provide heat, TV and all the comforts of home for those who intentionally violate the rights of others and the laws of our land, while the majority of our retired senior citizens in this state are trying to survive on less than half that amount? Yet, if we own and live in our home, we are commanded to contribute a large share of our yearly income in the form of taxes to an uncontrolled and a very abusive education system and the likes of our judicial system which places more concern for the comfort and safety of incarcerated prisoners than they provide for the elderly and many other tax paying residents of this state.
