Craig B. Zarzyczny, 66, of Williamsport, passed away after a two month battle with cancer, Monday, April 29, 2013, at The Gatehouse of Divine Providence Hospital.
Born July 8, 1946, in New York City, he was a son of Paul B. "Catfish" and Betty G. (Grassmyer) Zarzyczny.
Craig was a 1964 graduate of Williamsport High School. He graduated from Mansfield University with a degree in history, and also graduated with a master's degree in Public Health from St. Francis University. He was a Vietnam War Veteran of the U.S. Army and worked at the State of Pennsylvania Health Department.
Craig enjoyed running and cycling, and competed in many marathons and bicycle races. He also loved playing poker, reading and making homemade wine and beer. He was an avid sports fan, routinely cheering on his favorite teams like Penn State, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Duke Blue Devils and the New York Yankees.
Surviving in addition to his mother Betty, of Williamsport, are his loving wife, Carole A. (Confer) Zarzyczny; two sons, Brandon M. Zarzyczny, of Williamsport, and Matthew C. Zarzyczny, of Syracuse, N.Y.; eight siblings, James W. Zarzyczny, of Marion, Ohio, Gerald D. (Linda) Zarzyczny, of Williamsport, Carol A. Budd, of Mifflinburg, Paul B. (Ray) Zarzyczny Jr. of Boulder, Colo., Susan B. Baca, of Gallup, N.M., Mary M. Trafford, of Williamsport, Tina M. (Donna) Zarzyczny, of Williamsport, and Robert T. (Kathy) Zarzyczny, of Williamsport; many nieces and nephews; and his golden retriever, Dawn.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Joseph the Worker Parish (702 W. Fourth St.). An informal memorial service and luncheon will be held directly following the mass in the social room of the church.
