With a chance to earn an invitation to the Liberty Mutual Insurance Invitational National Finals at Pinehurst leading the list of prizes, Hope Enterprises will be hosting its 20th Anniversary Golf Tournament on June 21 at White Deer Golf Course.
The tournament, which is in its third year with Liberty Mutual, hopes to continue a long line of successful tournaments that has produced well over $250,000 for Hope Enterprises over the last 19 years by raising at least another $50,000 this year.
"It's the 20th year of the invitation program and the third with Liberty Mutual as the sponsor, and it's all about raising money for charities around the country," President of Hope Enterprises, Jim Campbell said. "We decided it would be a great fit to continue Hope's mission for helping people."
And as part of the Liberty Mutual Invitational, which features 72 tournaments nationwide, the winning foursome will receive an invitation to the National Finals at Pinehurst, N.C., starting March 26, 2014.
"It's as close as an amateur player can get to playing in a pro atmosphere," said Skip Jenkins, National Tournament Director for the Liberty Mutual Invitational. "It's the trip of a lifetime here for most regular guys."
The tournament will utilize both the Challenge course and the Vintage course at White Deer, with each seeing different prizes, ranging from Polaroid Digital Cameras, to gift cards to the pro shop.
There will also be putting, longest drive, closest-to-the-pin and hole-in-one contests which feature other prizes.
"We are going to use both the Vintage course and the Challenge course for this tournament and we are hoping to fill both course twice," Campbell said. "We are looking for 64 foursomes for that day."
Along with the tournament, golfers will also be treated to other events such as a sports memorabilia auction with items from New York Giants fullback and former Southern Columbia running back Henry Hynoski.
"There will be a sports memorabilia auction and Henry Hynoski will donate a few items," said Jim Dinsmore, a local Liberty Mutual agent. "There will also be a catered meal and every golfer gets a one-year subscription to Golf Digest. It will be really terrific."
The tournament will also be introducing an honorary chairman for the first time. And, naturally, the chairman will be a familiar face to many of the area's local golfers.
"Our honorary chairman will be Pedie McDonald. He will meet and greet people and he's a great sports fan and he's a wonderful sports fan to be around," Campbell said. "That really brings it together for us. He's a sports figure and he's a great spokesman for the group."
For just $125, golfers will get to register for the tournament and will receive over $170 in gifts at registration. With registration golfers will be eligible to win over $60,000 in prizes along with the opportunity to play in the National Finals at Pinehurst, all while helping raise money for Hope Enterprises.
"This tournament has gotten a much more philanthropic mindset with Liberty Mutual," Jenkins said. "It really is about the message of being part of the community."
