A structure fire at 2750 Newberry St. on May 7 was intentionally set, according to city Fire Chief C. Dean Heinbach.
The structure, a single-family owner occupied home, was occupied by Rebecca J. Leese and her 4-year-old daughter at the time of the fire. Both escaped through a first-floor window without injury.
Investigators determined that the fire originated outside in the rear of the attached breezeway, which linked the garage to the main house, and was intentionally set, Heinbach said in a news release issued today.
Damage is estimated at $240,000, he said.
