James H. Bertin, 94, formerly of Charlotte St., in Williamsport, died Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Rose View Center.
Jim was born in Williamsport on Dec. 17, 1918, a son of James H. and Mary Ellen Nau Bertin.
He was a member of the former Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, now part of St. Joseph the Worker Parish, and had attended the former St. Joseph's High School.
He had been employed by the former Capital Bakery and was the bread man in Newberry for nearly 50 years.
Jim was a World War II Army veteran serving in the South Pacific and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts.
His wife of 49 years, the former Rita D. Weaver, died Dec. 25, 1995.
Surviving are two nephews, Robert Bertin of Trout Run, Robert DeGroot of Fla.; and three nieces, Ann (George) Day, Carol (Wayne Stabley) Mundrick and Betty Moore, all of Williamsport.
Family and friends will be received at the portico of the church on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 702 W. Fourth St., Williamsport, with the Rev. David W. Bechtel officiating, followed by burial at Wildwood Cemetery.
