In the letter titled "First Amendment reminder," the writer said she was "appalled at the horror of what Dr. Gosnell did." But one was to wonder, "appalled" at what? For many pro-choice advocates, they say a fetus does not become a living child until it can survive outside the woman's body, but what they really mean is not until the moment the child is simply, physically outside of the woman's body, the umbilical cord cut, and the baby is welcomed into the world. Had the object been abortion, and had Dr. Gosnell collapsed the skulls or severed the spines while still in the birth canal, all would still be right in the world for pro-choice advocates. One has to wonder what they are really appalled at. Is it that Dr. Gosnell got caught and laid open the hypocrisy of some pro-choice advocates? Or is it that the uneasy discussion of when life begins will be brought back to the forefront of this debate?
