City firefighters, along with city code officials, responded Saturday night to the Williamsport Elderly Housing apartment complex at 798 W. Edwin St. because the 100-plus residents who live there had no running water for the second day in a row. Fire officials were alerted by the local chapter of the American Red Cross after the agency received a complaint about the lack of water for the residents. Firefighters went floor-to-floor checking on the welfare of the residents. Everyone was fine. The problem arose after the building’s water pump failed late Friday afternoon, Deputy Fire Chief Dave Dymeck said he was told. The building’s owner, Interstate Realty Management Co., of Marlton, N.J, is working to replace the pump as soon as possible, and portable water has been brought to the site, Dymeck said. Staff members are on the scene around-the-clock to get water for the residents whenever needed, he added.
