It seems like one event can set off a chain of events. One employee of Horizon Federal Credit Union, Kayla Gephart, came in to work sporting a beautiful haircut; she had her long hair cut off.
She explained how she decided to donate it to Locks of Love and went to Martino's Hair Salon.
After hearing this, employees Janine Hakes, Amanda Johnson, Traci Donahue, Katelyn Huling and Jessica Pennings wanted to do the same.
Horizon Federal Credit Union members recently cut and donated their hair to Locks of Love and Pantene Beautiful Lengths. Danielle Barr, Martino’s Hair II; Amanda Johnson, Horizon FCU senior MSR; Jessica Pennings, Horizon branch manager; Kayla Gephart, Horizon MSR; Janine Hakes, Horizon acct. rep./CUCE; and Christine Egli, Martino’s Hair II.
As time passed Traci and Katelyn realized that their hair was not the right length to donate. But the other three were excited to do so, and went ahead and said goodbye to their ponytails.
Johnson and Hakes went to Martino's Hair II in Newberry to have Christine Egli and Danielle Barr cut their hair for Pantene Beautiful Lengths.
(Pantene Beautiful Lengths provides wigs to women with cancer.)
Pennings went elsewhere later in the week to have her hair cut.
This incredible gesture is going to help people in need; a total of 51 inches of hair was donated.
Horizon Federal Credit Union always has given back to the community.
The employees have spent many hours over the years volunteering their time for various community events and causes, but this has set a chain of events among the girls.
As their hair continues to grow a future donation is already being planned.
