Geraldine "Geri" Marie Kutney (Eaton), 79, of Montoursville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Williamsport Hospital on June 5.
Geri was born in Olean, N.Y., on May 24, 1934, the daughter of Murl and Mary Crowley Eaton.
She was raised in Westfield and graduated in 1952 from Cowanesque Valley in Westfield. Geri had the honor of being the 1952 Miss Westfield at the Wellsboro Laurel Festival. Graduating from Mansfield University in 1956, she taught English to middle school students at Arthur Booth School in Elmira, N.Y. and at Lower Paxton in the Central Dauphin district of Harrisburg. She finished her career at Montoursville High School where she taught 10 grade English from 1972 to 1987. It was always very special to her to see and be remembered by her former students.
Geri was a gifted pianist and was an organist at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Westfield. Besides her love of teaching, she enjoyed reading, daily mass at the Meadows, dancing and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren.
She is survived by her two loving sons, Michael (Corina) Kutney, Montoursville, and J. Martin Kutney, Los Angeles, Calif., and her adorable grandchildren, Nolan and Nyla Kutney, Montoursville.
She is also survived by her three sisters, Marilyn (Robert) Allen, Ocean Pines, Md.; Carol (Roy) Farr, Elmira, N.Y.; and Evelyn (Thomas) Butler, Harrisburg; two aunts, Thema Spehar and Steffie Eaton, Eldred, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2013, with Rev. John K. Manno as celebrant, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 100 Walnut St., Montoursville. Burial will follow in Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Monday at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville.
