Marie Raymond Wilkerson, 87, passed away on June 5, 2013, at Sterling House of Greenville.
She was born Feb. 26 to Marie and Wilfred Raymond, of Williamsport. Her husband, Walter Wilkerson, preceded her in death.
She was educated in Williamsport and completed her degree in sociology from Penn State University in just three years. While being a homemaker and raising two sons, she participated in various charities and helped the local school system by substituting. She loved mystery books, cross-stitching, ceramics, knitting and Dobermans. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend.
Upon retirement, Marie and Walt enjoyed beach life at Pine Knoll Shores and later moved to Springfield, Mo. to be closer to family and grandchildren. In 2002, they returned to North Carolina and resided in Pitt County. After the death of her husband, Marie became a resident at Sterling House of Greenville.
Her sons, Ralph Wilkerson and wife Mary, of Rolla, Mo., and Richard Wilkerson and wife Barbara, of Grimesland, N.C.; grandchildren, Robert Wilkerson, of Farmington, N.M., Ryan Wilkerson and Katie Wilkerson, both of Rolla, Mo., survive Marie.
There will be a Mass at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in her memory on Nov. 30, 2013, at 4 p.m. A private graveside ceremony will be conducted at a later date in Williamsport.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care and Hospice of Pitt County at 3740 S. Evans St., Greenville, NC 27834, or to St. Gabriel's Catholic Church at 3250 Dickinson Ave., Greenville, NC 27834.
