Albert L. Koons Sr., of Williamsport, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2013, at 90 years young. He was born Oct. 1, 1922, in Williamsport, a son of George R. and Myra Alexander Koons.
He worked for the Post Office for 36 years and retired as Postmaster of the Montoursville Post Office in 1989. He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army in the Battle of the Bulge, where he received the Bronze Star. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 1 in Williamsport, The Lycoming Hunting and Fishing Club, and was an avid photographer, hunter and traveler.
He was predeceased by his wife, the former Rita Clark; his parents, brothers, George and Elmer; sisters, Kate Morse, and Jeanette Weaver.
He is survived by his son, Albert L. (Kathleen) Koons Jr.; daughters, Janis L. (Skip) Riley, and Karen C. (Dallas) Hill; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, 2013, at the Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville. Interment will follow in Twin Hills Memorial Park with military honors accorded by the Korean War Veterans of Lycoming Co. Friends will be received on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home and later at his residence.
