Lycoming County commissioners are planning to approve several contractual agreements at their Thursday meeting.
One of those is for legal services from the McCormick Law Firm, 835 W. Fourth St., for up to $50,000.
Kurt Hausammann, county department of planning and community development director, said the law firm's services would be used related to the county's real estate reassessment.
Hausammann also said that attorney J. Michael Wiley will continue his work as solicitor of the Lycoming County Planning Commission after the previous law firm with which he was associated dissolved. Wiley now is associated with the McCormick Law Firm. Commissioners are expected to confirm his $110 hourly rate Thursday.
A $35,000 agreement to hire attorney Julian Allatt as a conflict attorney will be reviewed by commissioners. Allatt would represent about 65 criminal defense cases a year.
Commissioners also will review the purchase of a $102,500 175-kilowatt natural gas generator to be used at the county's alternate emergency operations center. Seventy-five percent of the cost would be covered by a grant.
A three-year, $20,775 contract to provide LexisNexis online legal information to county prison inmates also will be up for approval. The service is mandated by law, according to Mya Toon, county grants manager.
A $741 fee for prisoner transport also will be reviewed. Luann M. Yohn, county chief adult probation officer, said the costs arose from transporting a wanted person from Georgia. Final costs will be added to the prisoner's court fees, according to Yohn.
Commissioners heard from Kenneth Try, who said he is a frequent user of the courthouse's register and recorder's office. Try said he wanted commissioners to be aware that he witnessed and assisted at least two people in wheelchairs recently who had difficulty gaining entry into the courthouse.
Try also said that those in wheelchairs have a difficult time accessing public computers in the register and recorder's office.
Commissioner Jeff Wheeland said that county staff will be directed to provide assistance as needed to wheelchair users.
