WELLSBORO - Tioga County Commissioners recently approved $107,951 from the gas impact fee fund to be put toward drug and alcohol treatment programs administered by the Department of Human Services. The department was defunded due to changes in the state and federal budget, according to Assistant Chief Clerk Janice Chamberlain. The impact fee money will help keep the programs running despite the funding losses from other sources, Chamberlain said.
The decision to fund the department with impact fee money was approved at this week's commissioners meeting. There was no public comment on agenda items, all of which passed. Personnel changes were approved, including the furlough of a food services worker due to the closure of the residential services kitchen. The prison kitchen now is cooking and transporting food to residential services. Five county aid applications also were approved.
The commissioners would like to remind townships and boroughs that county aid applications are due by June 30. The next Tioga County commissioners meeting will be held 7 p.m. June 25 in the Sullivan Township Building.
