Dorothy E. (Shaffer) Dowling, 84, of English Center, passed away Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1928, in South Williamsport, and was the daughter of the former Clarence L. and Florence C. (Jackson) Shaffer.
Dorothy enjoyed her time spent with her children, grandchildren and friends. She traveled extensively with her husband and children while her husband was serving in the military. She retired from F.W. Woolworth in Williamsport.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 67 years, John H. Dowling Sr., whom she married on Feb. 25, 1946 in South Williamsport; four sons, John H. Jr. (Sarah) of Anniston, Al., Donald E. (Margaret) of Grantville, George E. (Anna) of Victory Mills, N.Y., and Leonard E. (Ceri) of Hughesville; two sisters, Mary E. (Shaffer) Flook of South Williamsport and Jackie D. (Shaffer) Rising of Williamsport; and a brother, Samuel R. Shaffer of South Williamsport. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all.
A graveside memorial service will be held at English Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. No visitation will be held.
