Max A. Wheeland, 92, of Loyalsock Township, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013, at the Williamsport Home. He was born March 17, 1921, in Williamsport, a son of Chester C. and Laura S. Young Wheeland.
Max was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church and was a member, and past President of the Loyalsock Township Volunteer Fire Department.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Martha Hocker, E. Marie Eschenbach, Neva Wheeland, and a brother, Paul Wheeland.
Max is survived by his wife, the former Sophie M. Sarama, with whom he celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on June 6; his children, Rosie W. (Andy) English of Montoursville, Ginny W. (Herb) Miller of Salam, S.C., Ernie (Donna) Wheeland of Pennsdale, Grace A. (Larry) Clark of Williamsport, Lois E. Wheeland of Williamsport, and Allen "Butch" (Leanne) Wheeland of Montoursville; a sister, Pearl Mason of Mechanicsburg; five grandchildren, Jonathan A. (Anne) English, Lauren P. Clark, Mallory M. Clark, Brett M. Wheeland, Brittany E. Wheeland, and a great-grandson, Grayer Max English.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1220 Northway Road, Williamsport. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either: the Alzheimer's Association, Northeastern Region, 63 N. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701, or to the charity of one's choice.
