MANSFIELD - The Mansfield University Department of Communication is continuing to add to its television production capabilities thanks to the efforts of alumnus Rob Weigand.
A 1995 MU graduate, Weigand is senior manager of project planning and administration at ABC.
Working with his colleague Bob Schles, director of domestic and international electronic news gathering operations at ABC, they arranged the donation of several pieces of equipment their network was phasing out to the Mansfield University department of communication.

"I will always be grateful for the start Mansfield gave me in the media business, and am happy to give back when I can," Weigand said. "I hope to help continue the fine tradition of the Mansfield Communication Department, by equipping them for the future"
"Once again, Rob has shown his love of Mansfield and his desire to help future students," said Kathryn Sue Young, communication department chair. "This donation from ABC will allow us to continue to move forward and provide our students with more opportunities and experiences."
In 2011, Weigand arranged for a donation of equipment from ABC that helped MUTV, the student broadcast TV club, reach its goal of being able to broadcast live news and events.
According to Mark Polonia, multimedia resources director, this latest donation of several Betacam SP decks, a variety of high end HD field cameras and various monitors and components will further enhance the live capability and quality of MUTV broadcasts.
Young, Polonia and students Houston Baker and Austin Dragovich travelled to ABC in New York City to pick up the equipment.
