MANSFIELD - Three people were charged with theft recently. According to documents filed at District Judge James Carlson's office, they are:
James A. Sparks, 40, of 280 S. Academy St., charged by state police with theft after allegedly taking furniture from an apartment he was renting at 16843 Route 6, Richmond Township between Sept. 2012 and May 31. Police said he took furniture totaling $925 from Christina L. Greene when he moved out May 26. He returned two pieces when police told him to, but said that he had given the couch away and burned the bed. He was issued a summons to appear at a July 17 preliminary hearing.
Melissa M. Arnold, 23, of 180 E. Second St., Canton, charged by state police at Wal-mart, May 14, with retail theft, after she allegedly tried to take 17 items valued at $151 without paying for them. She was issued a summons to appear at a July 17 preliminary hearing.
Daniel C. Owen, 36, of 102 Pine St., Galeton, by state police at Wal-Mart with theft by deception, and receiving stolen property on Sept. 26, when he allegedly obtained a gift card for returning 14 stolen DVDs valued at $486. He was issued a summons to appear at a July 24 preliminary hearing.
