After finding a niche in Williamsport in the past few years with its unique offering of pizza, submarine sandwiches and other food, The Crazy Tomato has rolled into Jersey Shore.
That means there are now two Crazy Tomato restaurants in Lycoming County.
Manager Chad Clabaugh said the Jersey Shore location has been busy since opening in June. It was a matter of seeing an opportunity and seizing it, he said.
"We saw that there isn't a lot in Jersey Shore with the sub business," he said. "We had a good deal on the building. (And) We want to keep going."
The eatery at 214 Allegheny St. offers take-out and delivery service. With seating for about 50 people, it's bigger than the Williamsport location.
"We really just want everyone to try our food," Clabaugh said. "We think we have a good product."
One of the most popular items on the menu, he said, is the Crazy Tomato cheesesteak. The restaurant also serves sandwiches, specialty wraps, hot dogs and chili dogs, french fries, burgers, salads, chicken wings, and desserts.
"The biggest thing is quality," Clabaugh said. "I won't send it (food) out if it's not perfect."
He said he also stresses good customer service.
"We treat customers the best we can," he said.
Clabaugh noted it takes a lot of work running a restaurant properly. It also took a lot of work getting the place ready to open. Major renovations were done on the building, the site of a former restaurant, in preparing to get the business up and running.
The Crazy Tomato establishments are owned by Darrin and Duane Meixel. Clabaugh said he's hopeful that the Jersey Shore restaurant will be around for many years.
But the Crazy Tomato business may not stop there. He said other locations are being considered for future restaurants. Hours for The Crazy Tomato are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
