John F. Schafer Jr. "J.R.," 38, of 223 Curtin St., South Williamsport, died suddenly Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Wilkes-Barre.
Born May 13, 1975, in Hyattsville, Md., he was a son of John F. Schafer Sr. and Gloria (Baker) Greer.
He was a 1993 graduate of Bladensburg High School, Maryland, and also recently obtained a degree in computer applications technology from the Phoenix Institute. J.R. had been employed as a coordinator at T.J. Maxx for the past 6 years. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and New York Yankees. He had coached South Williamsport AYSO and enjoyed working on computers. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge South Williamsport.
Surviving in addition to his mother of Lusby, Md., are his wife, Brenda S. (Seitzer) Schafer together they celebrated 18 years of marriage on July 6; two children, Sage A. Schafer and Kyara M. Schafer, both at home; a step-father, Larry Greer; two sisters, Barbara Smith of Maryland and Wendy Kovacks of Pittsburgh and a father and mother-in-law, Fred and Sandy Pettit Jr. of South Williamsport.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Knight-Confer Funeral Home, 1914 Memorial Ave., Williamsport. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Knight-Confer.
