Richard W. Bird, 9079 State Route 87, Williamsport, PA 17701, passed away on July 16. He was born July 31, 1940, to Clayton and Beatrice Bird. Richard (Dick) was a lifetime member of Plunketts Creek Volunteer Fire Department, serving every position in the fire department since 1967. He was self-employed as an upholsterer, and past owner of Dick's Upholstery Shop. He was also an active member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene on Lycoming Creek Road, serving in Sunday School, Praise Team and on the Church Board.
An avid motorcycle enthusiast, he was an active member of the Christian Motorcycle Association for 15+ years. Dick was a devoted husband to his wife, Susan A., of 53 years and father of four children, Kimberly A. Mitchell (Christopher) of Bermuda, Deborah L. Ottenmiller (George) of Montoursville, Richard W. Bird II (Deborah) of Williamsport and Crystal Sue Kilby (Kevin) of Montoursville. Six grandchildren also survive him, including Zachary J. Mitchell of Bermuda, William C., Christopher A. and Joseph R. Bird of Williamsport, Josiah P. and Libby A. Kilby of Montoursville. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives whom he loved very much.
Viewing will be at Third St. United Methodist Church, 931 E. Third St., Williamsport, Pa., 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 19. Funeral service following at noon (Third St. U.M. Church) with interment at Wildwood Cemetery. Luncheon to follow in Fellowship Hall (Third St. UM Church). In lieu of flowers, donations to The Gatehouse (Divine Providence Hospital) C/O Susquehanna Home Care and Hospice, Susquehanna Health Foundation, 1001 Grampian Blvd Williamsport, PA 17701, would be greatly appreciated.
