James B. Bennett Sr., 82, of 1902 Fairview Ave., Berwick, died Tuesday morning, July 16, 2013, in the Berwick Retirement Village.
Born April 11, 1931, in Jersey Shore, he was the son of Forrest F. Bennett and the former Anna B. Haines. He retired from Piper Aircraft in 1981 after 32 years of service. Jim was a 1949 graduate of the Jersey Shore High School and honorably served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Air Force from Feb. 14, 1950, until Aug. 19, 1953.
For many years he was a member of the Jersey Shore Elks, V.F.W. and American Legion. Jim is survived by his companion of several years, Gloria Mann; one son, James B. Bennett Jr. of Goldsboro, N.C.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and one brother, William W. Bennett of Avis. Memorial services will be Saturday July 20, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore. Burial will be in the Jersey Shore Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard. Rev. Veronica Donohue Chappell will officiate.
