SABINSVILLE - Tioga County commissioners are using the county's Act 13 money to pay for a new $5 million emergency communications center for the county, which also covers parts of Potter County, commissioners said during their "on the road" meeting here Tuesday.
After they approved a one-year, 24-hour service response plan with Zetron for the comm center's seven 911 radio consoles plus supporting hardware and software for $128,366, normally a five-year contract according to Commissioner Roger Bunn, Bunn added that the equipment will be upgraded "when we move the center."
"This is the same rate and will be reimbursed 58 percent from the FEMA wireless fund and 42 percent from the wired fund," he said.
Once work is done on the former STAR building on Farrell Road, adding about 2,000 square feet in a second story including an elevator and two extra console stations, the communications center will be moved from its current location in the basement of the courthouse to the new location, Bunn said.
"Most of the work is being done on the interior, but it needs to be well ventilated, so some exterior work will be done," Commissioner Erick Coolidge said.
The work could be completed and the center moved by "late 2014, early 2015," Bunn added.
In other business, commissioners approved a Community Development Block Grant revision, reallocating about $11,213 in 2010 funds from Hamilton Township's incomplete sewer project to Lawrenceville's storm drainage project.
The funds must be used by the end of August in order to avoid returning them to the state, Coolidge said, and Hamilton Township is not "prepared to go forward" completing the project.
The township has used about $59,000 of the $70,000 it was allotted, he added. Lawrenceville was allotted $57,848. With this money the amount increases to $69,061, Coolidge added.
"It is anticipated the money will be returned to Hamilton Township during the next round of grant funding to complete its project next year," Coolidge said.
Commissioners also approved payment of $59,870 from the Act 13 fund for emergency installation of a fire alarm system at the courthouse by Simplex Grinnell.
