PENNSDALE - It's that time of year when parents and children head to the mall to shop for back-to-school supplies and new outfits for the first day of classes.
Unfortunately, there are many local families struggling to gather basic school necessities. The Lycoming Mall is partnering with Big Brothers/Big Sisters to "Cram the Van" - a campaign that helps local students start the school year equipped with learning tools and confidence.
School supplies, including backpacks, pencils, construction paper, notebooks, binders, glue sticks, markers, scissors and more will be accepted July 29 through August 11 in the Lycoming Mall management office.
At the end of the drive, Big Brothers/Big Sisters members will pack a van with the supplies and distribute them to area children in need.
Big Brothers/Big Sisters is a non-profit organization whose mission is to help children realize their potential and build their futures. It pairs positive adults with children in one-to-one friendships that improve the lives of everyone involved.
Children are given the motivation and encouragement to set goals, problem-solve, positively communicate and make good choices.
