The Williamsport Crosscutters always deliver baseball action, but Saturday they also are promising fans "a great redneck time," as Mountain Man from A&E's "Duck Dynasty" visits historic Bowman Field.
The slow-talking character from the hit reality show, whose real name is Tim Guraedy, will be the featured guest during the Crosscutters' Redneck Night when they take on the Jamestown Jammers at 7:05 p.m.
"We're really excited about it. Fans also are very excited about it. It's the most watched series on the A&E network," said Gabe Sinicropi, vice president of marketing and public relations for the team.
Sinicropi encourages fans to get to the ballpark early as Mountain Man will be holding a meet-and-greet event in the concourse prior to the game.
"(Guraedy will be) taking pictures with fans, signing autographs. He also will be our guest on pregame live," Sinicropi said.
And after throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, Guraedy will take a turn as the PA announcer. Sinicropi said Guraedy is known on the show for his slow speech pattern, so it should be interesting.
"He may be talking a lot while play is going on but we will see," Sinicropi said.
Sinicropi, who said he's a "huge fan" of the show, said since those on the show are "proud rednecks" it fits perfectly with the night's theme.
"It's going to be a fun night. And we teamed it up with our first-ever Redneck Night," Sinicropi said.
The night will feature country music, food specials and an eating contest.
The team will select 10 volunteers who bring their appetite along to compete, Sinicropi said.
Participants will be required to eat a certain amount of food in the time it takes to complete one full inning. The competition will continue with several types of food until there is one winner left.
The winner will receive NASCAR tickets.
And with the men of "Duck Dynasty" known for their facial hair, the team also will try to find the best beard in the ballpark.
"We encourage people who think they have some great beards to come on out," Sinicropi said.
The team has received positive feedback from the public, as Sinicropi said a lot of people are excited about Guraedy's appearance.
"They will have the chance to meet and greet Mountain Man and have a great redneck time," he said.
Acording to Sinicropi, Guraedy will be interviewed on the field at 6:25 and throw out the first pitch at 6:55. He also will be available to meet and greet fans and sign autographs at 7:10, according to Sinicropi.
