A candidate for governor will speak at the Genetti Hotel later this month, hosted by the Lycoming County Young Democrats.
John Hanger, former secretary of the state Department of Environmental Protection, will be the featured guest speaker at the meeting, a first of a series of meet and greets, held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27.
A cash bar reception will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., followed by remarks and a question-and-answer session moderated by Young Democrats officers Chuck Black and Chris Benson.
As secretary of the DEP, Hanger oversaw the environmental parameters of Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling.
Hanger doubled DEP's enforcement staff dedicated to policing the gas drillers and enacted five new regulations, including chemical disclosure requirements.
The Young Democrats of Lycoming County is the official youth organization for the Lycoming County Democratic Party. The event is free, but participants are asked to register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 337-2417.
