MUNCY - A local man has been accused of raping a woman he knows in her home while she was six months pregnant.
Wesley Robert Brought Jr., 22, whose last known address is 907 Arch St. in Williamsport, faces felony charges for rape, sexual assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, aggravated indecent assault, and misdemeanor charges for indecent assault and unlawful restraint.
On Feb. 18, state police were called to the Williamsport Regional Medical Center to respond to a rape victim. The woman, who was six months pregnant, was at the hospital being interviewed by a nurse. Officers came and collected her rape kit and met with the victim to set up an interview, which was scheduled for the next day.
Officers did not see the victim again until May 8, when they spoke with her in connection with another incident. The victim asked officers if she could postpone her interview until after her child was born, because she was having a difficult pregnancy and did not want to deal with the extra stress of reliving the incident, records state. However, the woman did provide a voluntary statement form to police.
On June 28, officers interviewed the victim. She explained that she and Brought had dated in the past, and the pair had remained friends since their breakup. On Feb. 18, Brought came to visit the woman at her home in a rural township, according to court record.
The victim said she, Brought and a few others watched a movie together. The woman allegedly had one glass of wine during the movie, while the others drank several beers.
At about 1 a.m., the woman took a shower. Brought allegedly came into the bathroom while she was showering because he wanted to talk to her, records state. The woman asked Brought to leave the room, which he did, according to the affidavit.
The woman told police that she went to bed in her bedroom around 4 a.m. She was allegedly awakened about half an hour later by Brought touching her face, records state.
Although she fought to keep him away, Brought was able to rape the victim, according to police. During the struggle, he allegedly also bit her on the left shoulder blade and banged her head off the wall. Although the woman allegedly screamed for help, Brought ignored her cries, according to court record.
During the alleged assault, Brought repeatedly asked the woman why she was rejecting him. Police said he asked "Why don't you want me?" over and over.
The victim sought treatment at the Jersey Shore Hospital later that morning. She was later sent to the Williamsport hospital to speak to councilors, records state.
Brought was arraigned before District Judge Jon E. Kemp on Aug. 6. He has been incarcerated in lieu of $100,000 bail.
