Jewell L. Brown, 91, of 1717 Faxon Parkway, Williamsport, died Saturday Aug. 17, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, with whom she shared 61 years of marriage. Her first husband William Jackson died in World War II.
Born March 23, 1922, in Benton, Tenn., she was the daughter of Charles and Edna Williamson Selders. Jewell was a graduate of Elmira Free Academy in 1940 and for many years was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School and was very active in other church activities. During World War II, she worked for Department of the Army in Washington D.C. She also worked for the ammunition depot at White Deer. After the war, she was employed as a medical secretary for Dr. Lloyd Forcey for 21 years.
Jewell was active in many school affairs, Girl Scouts, and served on the Jersey School Board. She was president of the Jersey Shore Womens Club and the Lycoming County Womens Club. She was also active in the Red Cross and was the Jersey Shore Citizen of the Year in 1972.
She is survived by two sons, William Jackson (Ann) of Coatsville, Pa. and Gerald Brown (Suzanne) of Jersey Shore; one daughter, Cynthia Missien (John) of Williamsport; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jewell was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday Aug. 21, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Jersey Shore Cemetery.
Family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made in her name to the Susquehanna Hospice, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of arrangements.
