MILTON - The hundreds who run in the Girls on the Run of the Greater Susquehanna Valley fall and spring 5K races will be finishing with extra style, thanks to a donation by the Central PA Chamber of Commerce.
GOTR GSV was awarded $2,645 by the Milton Medical Care and Community Betterment Foundation, one of the Chamber's charitable entities. The money will be used to buy a 20-foot inflatable finish line arch, to be used at all future GOTR races. It will serve as a visual for the girls in the program as they set their sights on their goal of completing a 5K.
Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident, using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. The GOTR GSV chapter currently serves school districts across Montour, Northumberland, Snyder and Union counties.
"Our Special Projects Committee and Board were excited to have the opportunity to fund this project," said Bruce Smith, the Chamber's Acting President and CEO. "We are pleased that the Girls on the Run organization continues to expand and reach out to communities across our region.
"It's an honor to be a part of this program that encourages girls to live and grow up healthy and not just physically, but mentality and emotionally."
