Mr. Russell C. "Duke" Woolever Jr., 85, longtime South Williamsport resident, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013, at The Gatehouse Hospice, Williamsport.
Mr. Woolever was retired from the National Cash Register Company where he had worked for more than 40 years as a field engineer.
Duke was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church at South Williamsport. He was a graduate of the Montoursville High School, Class of 1946, and was a member of the football team.
Duke was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Williamsport, the son of the late Russell C. Sr., and Vera L. Lundy Woolever.
Duke enjoyed travel throughout the United States. He was an avid outdoorsman who deeply enjoyed hunting, fly fishing and snowmobiling with his wife. He was a lifetime member of the N.R.A.; a member of the Consolidated Sportsmen's Club of Lycoming County; and a former member of the Loganton Snowmobile Club and the Daniel Boone Hunting Club at Pine Creek. He also enjoyed spending time at his cabin, Kandota, on the Little Bear Creek.
Mr. Woolever had been a member of the South Williamsport Lions Club for more than 50 years and was the recipient of it's Melvin Jones Award.
Mr. Woolever served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He and his wife of 59 years, the former Pat A. Stoutenburg, of South Williamsport, were married on March 13, 1954. Surviving in addition to his wife, Pat A. Woolever of South Williamsport, are his daughter, Lynda Brandenburg, (Rick) of Montoursville; his two sons, Steven G. Woolever, (Tammy) of Williamsport, and Brad Woolever, (Deb) of South Williamsport; his grandson, Travis J. Woolever, (Camille) of Grand Forks, N.D.; grandson, Eric M. Brandenburg, of Montoursville; granddaughter, Lauren M. Brandenburg, also of Montoursville, and three great-grandchildren.
In addition to his late parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Oscar Woolever, and his three sisters, Florence Woolever, Ada Beals, and Marietta Johns. He was also preceded in death by his grandson, Marc Allan Woolever.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at the Charles M. Noll Funeral Home, South Williamsport. The Rev. Kenneth Elkin will officiate. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Noll Funeral Home from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday.
