JERSEY SHORE- Jersey Shore Hospital, in conjunction with the Penn State Cooperative Extension office, is offering a "Dining with Diabetes" program for diabetic adults and their families.
The class helps patients understand the important things about managing diabetes.
Registered dietitians and educators will lead discussions that address how to plan healthy meals, healthy food preparation and physical activity.
Classes are offered weekly for four weeks, with a three-month follow-up class.
Each class will offer food demonstrations and tastings, physical activity, ideas to take home, and discussions regarding important information in managing diabetes. Lab tests also will be offered.
Each participant will receive a variety of resources including a cookbook, class handouts and test results.
Classes will be held at the Jersey Shore Hospital board room beginning with an introductory class on Sept. 12.
The classes will continue on Sept. 19 and 26 and Oct. 3 and 10.
Classes will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.
Both Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries receive free registration for this program. Others will be charged a fee for the classes.
