James Batley Miller, 65, of 48 Lackawanna Ave., East Stroudsburg, Pa., died Monday evening Aug. 26, 2013, at the Gatehouse.
Born Jan. 1, 1948, in Jersey Shore, he was the son of Charles J. Miller and the former Jane Bubb. James was a graduate of the Jersey Shore High School and the Williamsport Area Community College with a degree in painting. He was employed by Hughes Corp. until being drafted.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army (9th Inf. Div.) during the Vietnam War from June 13, 1968, until June 12, 1970, and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. James also attended East Stroudsburg University majoring in political science and later retired from Wal-Mart.
James was active in his church in East Stroudsburg and was an avid reader. He is survived by his mother and father of Jersey Shore; his sister, Robin Miller, of South Carolina, and his companion, Margaret Petrella, and her children, Megan and Brandon.
Memorial services will be Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Jersey Shore Presbyterian Church, 235 S. Main St., Jersey Shore. Pastor Becky Cuddeback will officiate. Full military honors will be conducted by the Jersey Shore Honor Guard following the memorial service.
Family will provide flowers and suggest memorial contributions be made in his name to The Gatehouse, 1100 Grampian Blvd., Williamsport, PA 17701. Frederick B. Welker Funeral Home, 125 N. Main St., Jersey Shore, is in charge of arrangements.
