Betty Jane Bennett, 89, of Montoursville passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2013, at the Williamsport Regional Medical Center.
She was born March 31, 1924, in the historic stone cottage on Main Street in Muncy, a daughter of Lamar and Martha Liddic Bower.
Betty was a member of the Williamsport Women's Club, Bridge Club, Beta Sigma Phi Society, where she was the first president, and the Eastern Star. Upon graduation in 1942 from Muncy High School before receiving her diploma, she went to Buffalo, N.Y. and joined the Signal Corp. during World War II. She loved writing poems, doing crossword puzzles, singing and dancing to "Sweet Home Alabama," winters in Florida, the Yankees and Little League Baseball.
Known to her family as Nana, she was a devoted daughter, parent, grandparent, great-grandparent, and homemaker.
She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Seth Bennett and a brother, Donald.
Betty is survived by a son, Jack R. (Judy) of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two daughters, Jill B. Hassenplug of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and Connie J. (Michael) Hrapla of Crofton, Md.; a sister, Sally (James) Fairchild of Wayne, Pa.; six grandchildren, Michael Bennett, Sandy (Jerry) Donnelly, Lynsie (David) Pfleegor, William "Bumper" (Julie) Hassenplug, Kristin (Jon) Stresing and Matthew Hrapla; and six great-grandchildren, Colton Pfleegor, Preston Pfleegor, Ryan Donnelly, Jack Donnelly, Cole Hassenplug and Claire Hassenplug.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 29, 2013, at Spitler Funeral Home, 733 Broad St., Montoursville, with Pastor Wolfinger officiating. Interment will follow in the Montoursville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday morning from 10 to 11 a.m.
