Robert Berguson, 89, passed away peacefully Aug. 29, 2013, Thursday evening with family by his side at Robert Packer Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 26, 1924, in Arnot, Pa. He is preceded in death by a grandson, Dan Reed Berguson; sister, Agnes Kendrick, and brothers, Walter, Gordon, Harold, and Donald. Also by parents, John and Edith Johnson Berguson.
He was a proud World War II veteran who served in the Army in the Pacific Theater as a gunner on a B-29 Super Fortress and was a member of the 330th bomb group. He received numerous awards including a purple heart and the air medal. He was the last surviving member of his crew. He was also a professional baseball player for the Washington Senators. He was also a coal miner and operator as well as a truck driver. He enjoyed spending time with family especially his grandchildren. He loved tinkering at the farm.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Entwistle Berguson; sisters, Ethel Thompson and Bertha Young and brother, Robert Berguson; as well as children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Johnny and Juanita Berguson, grandchildren: Rachael and Jonathan; Diane and Ron Purvis, grandchildren: Jason and Robin Glowatz and Christina Asbury, great-grandchildren: Liberty, Dale, and Isabella; Ronnie and JoAnn Berguson, grandchild: Chad, great-grandchild: Haley; Doug and Mary Berguson, grandchildren: Jon Erik, Emily, and Bryan; Dan and Sue Berguson, grandchildren: Holly (who resided with him), Raena and Onur Iribugday, Dan Reed (deceased), Kirsten, Britta, Jillian, Danil, Ryan and Jessie Elder and great-grandchild: Kirra Elder; as well as brother-in-law, Donald Entwistle, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Memorial service to be held on Oct. 5, 2013, at the Church of Christ in Covington, Pa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to a church of your choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Freeberg Funeral Home, Blossburg.
