The Lycoming County DUI Task Force yanked 36 suspected drunk drivers off the road during a national Labor Day enforcement campaign that ran from mid-August to Monday night, according to William Solomon, task force coordinator.
Officers conducting roving patrols throughout the county charged 27 motorists with driving under the influence of intoxciants or controlled substances, Solomon said.
As part of the campaign, which was called "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," police charged an additional nine motorists with drunk driving during checkpoint that was conducted on the South Williamsport side of the Market Street bridge on overnight Saturday, Solomon said.
"Two of those charged were suspected of driving under the influence of drugs, both of whom were believed to be smoking marijuana," Solomon said.
"One of the drivers had two minors in the vehicle, and will therefore face a charge of driving under the influence with children in the vehicle along with drug charges," Solomon said.
