For the third time in less than a year, Montgomery School Board failed their student and student athletes. Last year they had an opportunity to make the right decision and stand behind the football coach after 13 students walked off the practice field because they did not like some of the decision that the football staff made. The school at first made it seem like they were supporting the football coach and staff. Then at the end of the football season said they were opening the position for applicants to apply for the position. This showed the school board had its personal agenda and was not looking out for their student athletes.
Now this year they failed to stand behind the head softball, tennis and basketball coach. This is a man who dedicated his life to improving the student athletes in the Montgomery school district. When I say dedicated his life, I do mean that. He works all year long morning and afternoon to help these kids be their absolute best. He has given unselfishly for over 30 years. He has been there for these kids whenever they needed him. He came in early and stayed late to help whoever needed his help. The school board is now opening the position for applicants to apply for the position because a few unhappy parents have made unfounded allegation. One of the parents who filed the complaint also applied for the position. This person is also a very close personal friend of the school board president. As of today the school board made the decision to give the head coach an ultimatum which resulted in him resigning from his position. This left at least 20 girls without a tennis coach in the middle of the season and many of the same girls without a basketball coach. They will fill the softball coach position!! Again the school board put their personal agenda ahead of their student athletes.
Again this year, the board had the opportunity to continue to improve the cheerleading program. The school board could have selected a head coach who had 10+ years of experience and an assistant coach who had over 12 years of experience in competitive cheerleading. The board said they were opening the position for applicants to apply for the position. The athletic director and superintendent choose the head coach and tried to force an assistant coach on the head coach. They said the assistant coach she selected was too young for the position.
The head coach stepped aside to allow the athletic director and superintendent personal choice to have the position. Again the school board put their personal agenda ahead of their student athletes. The school board uses whatever means necessary to meet their personal agenda. The School Board said they "have to" open these positions for all to apply but they did not open the head wrestling coach position. They filled the position with who they "wanted" to have the position. The head tennis coach position was offered to a young lady without opening the position. This young lady was the same age as the assistant cheerleading coach.
The board must set aside personal agendas and friendships and do what is best for the students and student-athletes of the Montgomery School District
