Another letter comparing today's youth with the youth of time gone by. As we turn back the hands of time we put on rose colored glasses as we describe what it was like as a child. Our past youth what a wonderful fulfilling time we had. Poppycock!
The list of great times could have easily happened on one day or week, what about the rest of your summer? It is real easy to remember and recall all the fun times but they were few and limited. We forget the mediocre and mundane days of youth, they are a but a shadow.
I remember the parents from my childhood complaining how easy all of us kids had it. That we were soft and idle and up to no good. They had no childhood themselves, no time for play, they all had to work even in or out of school. Being a child way back then was hard. We strive to make life easier not only for ourselves but for our children and grandchildren and then we turn around and fault it.
Children today have their time schedule with sports clinics or summer programs to improve their skills. They are overly scheduled and programmed and in order to feed them we pull up to the nearest drive up window and place our order or when we stop for gas get a snack and a 'big gulp' for the road.
How do we communicate, with a text! We don't share an activity or technology we all have our own.
It is a different time, a different generation, different technology, different challenges.
They will remember the good and delete the bad and they will store it in a 'cloud' for future reference.
