They're at it again. Two Democrat lawmakers are proposing steep new taxes on handguns and ammunition. The bill would raise the tax on ammunition to 50% and nearly double taxes on handguns. It would also increase the $5 transfer tax to $100.
It's ironic that the same people, who complain that a free voter ID might prevent poor people from exercising their right to vote, don't see that these high taxes might prevent poor people from exercising their right to keep and bear arms.
Why don't they see that these taxes are extremely 'regressive' and that they are discriminatory towards the poor, who are disproportionately black? These are arguments frequently used by Democrats, yet they are ignoring them now. After all, the rich will still buy guns and ammo, but the poor may be unable to under this law. Shouldn't poor people be able to defend themselves, especially considering that they tend to live in more high crime areas? Why do Democrats hate poor people?
Since criminals do not get their firearms legally, these new taxes will have no effect on them, but they will have possibly lethal effects on those who will be taxed out of the ability to defend themselves in high crime areas.
Do these lawmakers really want to hurt the poor? I don't know, but that is what will happen if they are successful. Did they not look at the obvious effects of the legislation; or don't they care? Either way, their irrational hate/fear of guns is causing them to make some very poor choices.
